Why Manual Competitor Research Breaks
The competitor set is bigger and the cycle is faster than spreadsheets and quarterly check-ins were ever built for. By the time a manual report lands, the price, the promo, and sometimes the SKU itself have already moved.

Average manual lag
Typical delay between a competitor price change and a merchandiser noticing on a manual check.

Price moves per month
Competitive categories see prices change two to four times per month — quarterly studies miss almost all of it.

Days
Assortment cycle
New SKUs and category expansions ship in days, not quarters. Monthly reviews miss the launch window.
Gartner retail outlook, 2024
The math is unforgiving. If you carry 5,000 SKUs across 30 competitors and one analyst can manually check 200 prices a day, a full sweep takes more than three weeks — and by the time it’s done, half the data is wrong. Automated daily collection collapses that loop to a single feed your merchandising and pricing teams can act on the same morning the change happens.
What It Delivers
Brainova’s competitor intelligence is built for the operational layer — the weekly pricing decisions, monthly assortment reviews, and quarterly merchandising plans where competitive data has to be fresh, structured, and SKU-matched to drive any action. Strategic dashboards aren’t the goal; feeding your stack is.
Real-Time Pricing Intelligence
Per-product prices across every competitor that carries a SKU you also sell — refreshed daily, with full history and direction-of-movement signals.
- •Price-position alerts when you drift above or below market.
- •Promotional cadence detection — who discounts when, who follows, who leads.
- •Margin-protected response recommendations, not just raw alerts.
Assortment Gap Analysis
Every competitor carries SKUs you don’t, and is missing SKUs you do. Both are opportunity — sourced and ranked, not just listed.
- •SKUs competitors carry that you don’t — ranked by how many stock them.
- •SKUs you carry that competitors don’t — defensible differentiator or sunset candidate.
- •Per-competitor overlap matrix with side-by-side pricing.
New-Entrant & Launch Detection
Catch new SKUs, new competitors, and category exits within the 24-hour window — the difference between defining a trend and chasing it.
- •New SKUs added to competitor catalogues, surfaced daily.
- •New marketplace sellers, D2C launches, and assortment expansions.
- •Exit signals — SKUs and stores going dark, categories being deprioritised.
Structured Feed, Not Another Dashboard
Output where decisions actually get made — your BI tool, your PIM, your pricing engine. No new login, no dashboard fatigue, no copy-paste.
- •CSV, JSON, and direct API delivery on your schedule.
- •Direct sync into PIM, CRM, or pricing engines.
- •Scheduled email digests for execs who want the weekly summary.
How It Works
How It Works
Define Your Competitor Set & Match Rules
Start with the competitors you already track — bulk import from a spreadsheet or URL list. Define SKU match rules (brand + model, MPN, GTIN, fuzzy attribute match) so your catalogue maps cleanly to theirs. The AI auto-discovers new competitors over time and flags them for one-click approval.
AI Crawls Competitors Daily
The pipeline crawls competitor catalogues on your schedule, extracting structured product data — title, SKU, price, images, specs, availability, promo flags. LLM-assisted extraction handles layout changes without breaking. Marketplace coverage included where APIs and partner feeds allow.
SKU-Matched & Normalised
Every extracted product is matched against your catalogue using your defined rules plus AI-assisted fuzzy matching. Prices, units, and currencies are normalised. Confidence scores are attached so your team can audit — or auto-trust above a threshold.
Delivered as a Structured Feed
Insights land where you already work — CSV exports for merchandising, scheduled email digests for execs, API access for BI tools, direct sync into your PIM or pricing engine. No separate dashboard. The feed triggers the action.

How It’s Different
Competitor intelligence has three traditional approaches. Each handles part of the job and leaves a structural gap Brainova is built to close.
vs. Price-Tracking SaaS
Prisync, Price2Spy, Competera
These watch a manually-mapped list of competitor product pages and alert on price changes. They require you to identify and match every SKU by hand, ignore assortment, and bill per-product so scale punishes you.
Brainova adds: automated SKU matching, an assortment layer, new-entrant detection, and workflow-value pricing instead of per-SKU.
vs. Enterprise Research
Nielsen, Euromonitor, Mintel
Excellent strategic intelligence delivered in quarterly PDFs. Useless for “should I change this price this week” — and the data is already months old when it lands in the boardroom.
Brainova adds: operational intelligence — fresh enough to drive weekly pricing and monthly assortment decisions. Complementary, not a replacement.
vs. DIY Scrapers + Analysts
In-house pipelines
Common at larger retailers: two analysts, a scraping tool, a pipeline. Breaks every time a competitor redesigns, requires real engineering to maintain, and scales linearly with headcount.
Brainova adds: a managed service. We own the pipeline, the scraping infrastructure, the matching, and the failure modes. You get the data; we handle the plumbing.
What You See
Six core outputs, every one delivered as structured data into the tools your team already uses. No new dashboards to log into, no manual reconciliation work.
Daily Price Grid
A SKU-by-competitor matrix refreshed every morning. Your price, theirs, the delta, the trend, and the position rank — across hundreds of competitors and thousands of SKUs in a single feed.
- •Per-SKU history with timestamped change events.
- •Margin headroom calculated against your cost data.
- •Sort and filter by category, competitor, or movement.
Assortment Gap Report
Your SKUs vs. theirs, ranked by competitor frequency. The shortlist your sourcing team actually wants on a Monday morning.
New-Entrant Detection Alerts
New SKUs added to competitor catalogues, new marketplace sellers, and category expansions — surfaced within 24 hours.
Promo & Discount Cadence Tracking
Most teams know that competitors discount — they don’t know the pattern. Brainova fingerprints the cadence: which competitors discount on which days, which SKUs rotate through clearance, who leads vs. who follows on price.
- •Per-competitor discount calendars by category.
- •Lead/follow analysis — who moves first, who reacts.
- •Promo-depth distribution across the year.
Brand Protection & MAP
Track unauthorised resellers, MAP violations, and gray-market activity on your own SKUs across marketplaces and reseller sites.
Structured Feed (JSON / CSV / API)
Direct delivery into your BI tool, PIM, pricing engine, or data warehouse. The feed is the product — no separate dashboard required.

About the Service
Traditional competitor-pricing tools require you to manually identify and match products across competitor stores — one SKU at a time. They do pricing only, not assortment analysis or new-entrant detection. And they bill per-product, which punishes scale. Brainova does automated SKU matching across competitors (so you don't map every SKU by hand), adds assortment gap analysis and launch detection, and prices on workflow value rather than per-SKU. For a 500-product catalogue tracked across 30 competitors, the total cost is typically meaningfully lower than legacy pricing tools — and delivers categories of intelligence they don't.
Enterprise market-research platforms deliver excellent strategic intelligence — but the data arrives quarterly or annually in PDF reports. Great for boardroom strategy, useless for 'should I change this product's price this week.' Brainova delivers operational competitive intelligence: the kind of data that drives weekly pricing decisions and monthly assortment reviews. Most customers run both — strategic research from a Nielsen-class vendor, operational data from Brainova.
Yes. Marketplace monitoring is fully supported — using a mix of marketplace APIs (where available), authorised partner feeds, and compliant scraping. For Amazon specifically, we support Buy Box monitoring, third-party seller tracking, and MAP compliance for your own SKUs across reseller listings. Each marketplace has different terms of service and we operate within them.
A meaningful fraction of B2B competitors require a login or quote request for pricing. For these, Brainova captures everything visible (product range, specifications, apparent positioning) without the price. We do not monitor competitor login-gated content on your behalf without authorisation, which would violate terms of service. We do support authorised monitoring of your own portal pricing as visible to your customer base — useful for brands auditing reseller behaviour.
Getting Started
Initial competitor set ingestion and the first full catalogue crawl take 1–2 weeks. First structured outputs (pricing comparisons, assortment overlap matrices) land within week 2. Trend signal — directional pricing moves and launch detection — becomes meaningful at week 4–6, once we have baseline data to compare against. Full operating rhythm with weekly digests, automated alerts, and BI integration is in place by end of month 2.
We handle it for you. Brainova's extraction pipeline is LLM-assisted and structurally adaptive — when a competitor redesigns their site, the AI typically keeps extracting correctly without human intervention. When it can't, we catch and fix within 24–48 hours as part of the managed service. You don't maintain scrapers and you don't get a phone call when something breaks.
Monitoring publicly available competitor pricing and assortment is legal and a standard business practice. We respect robots.txt, rate-limit our crawls responsibly, and do not bypass authentication, paywalls, or anti-bot measures. For customers with specific compliance concerns (PCI-regulated merchants, heavily regulated industries), we support whitelist-only monitoring and provide documentation suitable for compliance review.
No. The competitor intelligence product stands alone and integrates with your existing PIM, BI, or e-commerce stack (Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento, SAP Commerce, custom). Using both products together is powerful — competitor-discovered SKUs flow naturally into your sourcing pipeline — but it's not required. Many customers run competitor intelligence with their existing stack and never touch Brainova Inventory.
